The Hong Kong Polytechnic University announced on the 8th that the university’s State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology and its student research team have successfully developed a more energy-efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode) filament technology(filament LED bulbs energy saving) with luminous efficiency about 1.5 times that of conventional LED lamps. At present, general lighting products on the market are more energy-efficient.

According to reports, the use of eight hours a day, this filament lamp requires only 33 Hong Kong dollars a year, carbon emissions of 22 kilograms of CO2e. With the same luminosity and the same usage time, the traditional LED lamp costs HK$47 per year, and the carbon emission is 31 kilograms of CO2e, so the new technology can reduce carbon emissions by 30%. In addition, the life expectancy of Hong Kong PolyU LED filament light bulbs is 50,000 hours, and the production cost is only half that of best vintage LED bulbs.
The researchers pointed out that in addition to making breakthroughs in energy efficiency, longevity, and production cost, other advantages of the LED filament technology developed(china BT180 Spiral filament LED light Bulbs supplier) by PolyU in Hong Kong include: a wide range of lighting angles, covering 300 degrees with tungsten bulbs, and a high color rendering index. The color rendering index close to daylight makes the object appear as if it were under natural light; the ultraviolet radiation is low; it contains no harmful chemicals, uses fewer electronic parts, and makes up to 80% of recyclable materials.

According to reports, the "PolyU Microfund" allocated HKD 100,000 to the student team for this study in 2015. The team expects that the product can be launched this year.
