LED lamp “recall” is frequent, LED industry urgently needs to solve quality problems

In recent years, waterproof LED Flood Light with energy saving and environmental protection and longer service life have gradually replaced traditional lamps and lanterns, and their market share has continuously increased. China has also become the world's largest producer of lighting products. According to GGII statistics, in 2017, China's LED lighting was close to 22 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of nearly 40% year-on-year.
In 2017, the status of China's LED lighting products as the first export destination was further strengthened, and its proportion increased to 25.3%. In Brazil and India, the import of LED lighting increased by nearly 157% and 49%, respectively, making China LED lighting the top ten export destination countries. In addition, South America, the Middle East, Vietnam and other regions have become the fastest growing regions and countries for export of LED lighting.
However, with the increasing export of economic LED Filament lighting products in China, some product quality issues are also worrying.
In the past two years, many LED export products have fallen into the "recall" quagmire due to quality problems, and have also become a major pain point for LED export companies. Although LED companies have stepped up their control over the quality of their exports, many cases have been recalled.
According to the observation of Gaogong LED, since 2018, less than 3 months have passed, and more than 10 cases have been recalled.
For LED lamp recall cases, experts from the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau stated that although China's LED lamps and lanterns have developed rapidly and formed a relies are lacking,atively large industrial scale with huge market potential, the shortcomings of core and key technolog as well as scattered, small and chaotic. The structure of industrial organizations still restricts the improvement of international competitiveness.
Experts also pointed out that, through the case studies of the recall of LED lamps（dimmable LED light bulbs） and lanterns in China by European countries and the United States in recent years, the main reasons are nothing more than the following four aspects:
The first is that the product's waterproof performance is not up to standard, and it is prone to moisture, resulting in damage to the interior of the lamp. Such products mainly appear in outdoor LED lamps;
The second is that product protection against electric shock does not meet the requirements of the standard. The main reason is that there are defects in the design of some manufacturers, there are hidden dangers of electric shock in the structure, and poor insulation of the cable may also cause fire;
Third, there are quality risks in the internal wiring and external wiring of the product, which can easily lead to dangers such as electric shock, fire, falling injury, etc., and endanger the personal and property safety of consumers;
Fourth, toxic and hazardous substances are contained in products, which do not meet the requirements of relevant foreign laws and regulations.
Therefore, LED export companies should timely understand the standards of European and American developed country LED lighting products, from product design, raw material procurement, assembly and production and other aspects, and effectively improve product quality.
